It peaked in early 1967 at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (behind the Monkees' "I'm a Believer") and No. 1 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
George Davis arranged and played baritone saxophone on the first recording.

Tell it like it is (Heart Remix)
In 1980, Heart sang "Tell It Like It Is."
It was a studio recording that was put on their album Greatest Hits/Live.
It was the first of two singles from the album.
The other was a live recording of a hit song, and both were cover songs of songs that were already popular.
In the winter of 1981, the song reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100,
making it their highest-charting single in the United States up to that point.
It did better in Canada, where it got to Number 4!
