Who wrote the James Bond Theme?

James Bond Theme Origin

Ever wondered who wrote the James Bond Theme song?

Monty Norman wrote the "James Bond Theme," and since 1962, he has been getting money from it.

Between 1976 and 1999, Norman made about £485,000 in royalties!

For Dr. No, Norman did the score, and John Barry arranged the theme.

Did you know that there was a James Bond lawsuit?

The James Bond Song Lawsuit!

James Bond Theme Lawsuit

Monty Norman sued The Sunday Times for character defamation, saying that he had been slandered for getting credit (and royalties) for a song he didn't write.

Norman has always said that he wrote the "James Bond Theme" and that John Barry only worked on it to make it sound like a Barry song.

Norman says he had nothing to do with coming up with the titles but only used a small amount of his background score.

The defence says Norman suggested "Dr. No's Fantasy" and recorded it, but Broccoli and Saltzman turned it down.

Norman said he had never recorded his original Bond Theme.

The 60 bars of the "James Bond Theme" are divided into "Bad Sign, Good Sign," "Dr. No's Fantasy," and other pieces by John Barry.

Barry chose to use the electric guitar because it was the most popular instrument at the time.

The defence said that Norman never told him that he had written the Bond Theme.

The musicologist for the defence, Guy Protheroe, said that the vamp may be an important part of a piece of music.

Barry said he didn't meet with Norman and Rhodes at Denmark Street Caf for Dr. No. No.

In the end, Norman was awarded $45'000.
