What's The Meaning of Mr. Rager? (Full Breakdown)

Written by Jabari Banza | May 2, 2022 4:31:28 AM

Is Mr. Rager about Kid Cudi's dad?

What is Mr. Rager all about?

Contrary to popular belief Mr. Rager is not about Kid Cuid's dad. Mr. Rager is about a man who wants to escape reality through drugs. The term "rager" refers to people who party and do lots of reckless things.

Kid Cudi himself said in a recent interview how he was "fed up" with reality and contemplated death at the time of recording.

Mr. Rager is a maniac horror short about having a split personality.

Just watch the video Mr. Rager's music video below. 👇

Mr. Rager is a song written for those on "the way to heaven."

The "real life" is what Mescudi wants to fight.

To escape is to be filled with pain, disappointment, and loneliness.

Ironically, you wouldn't think that at first; the idea of a man leaving can reflect his father dying on him.

As you hear "I'm on my way to heaven" begin the track, you wonder...

What exactly does he mean by "heaven"? Heaven can either mean death or his high.

Depending on who you're talking to, the adventure of his song can have different meanings.

Cudi's lyrics are up to interpretation, I'm sure even Kanye West isn't 100% sure.

This makes a lot of sense when you consider the fact that Kid Cudi's songs have a theme of loneliness.

Who wrote Mr. Rager?

Want to know the story behind Mr. Rager?

Mr. Rager was written by Kid Cudi and Elime Haynie. The beat was produced by Emile, but performed by Kid Cudi.

The song's meaning really fits other tracks on the album (such as Solo Dolo.)

NightBird Studios is pretty involved in the creation of many Cudi tracks.

Every time NightBird Studios works with Cudi, the song always sounds awesome!

Mr. Roger was one of the most liked tracks in the Studio album.

They've worked together on other projects, and their tracks sound really good together.

The lyrics and production fit the "Man On The Moon ii" sound you hear throughout the full album!

Songs Emile Haynie wrote in "Man On The Moon 2":

  • Scott Mescudi VS. The World

  • Don't Play This Song

  • We Aight

  • Mojo So Dope

  • The Mood

  • These Worries

  • All Along

That's a high list of the title track - many songs for one person to work on.

That's 7 songs, nearly half of the album!

Aside from Kanye West, It's clear that Emile was just as monumental to the success of Kid Cudi.

When Elime and Cudi get together you can guarantee that a good song will be produced.

Man on the Moon 2 has a release date of November 2010 but really took off in December.

Kids across the globe will never forget that November/December.

The Mr. Rager Music Video Explained

Mr. Rager is a beautiful story.

What is Mr. Rager about?

The Mr. Rager music video is metaphorical for getting "high" as a way to fight your demons. In the end, Kid Cudi couldn't reach the top, and returned back to reality, dazed and confused.

Just watch the YouTube video below. 👇

It's a true adventure, a story the rapper made for kids that feel out of place.

The one part when Scott throws the punch at Kanye West is symbolic, of him reaching toward his goals and missing.

Complex magazine and other sources loved the video.

Since the beginning of the music video, Kid Cudi's entire goal is to ascend to the top.

As Kid Cudi fights the "bad guys" in the video, he is making progress on his journey.

His feeling at that point of the video was represented with the Guitar.

Death every time intrigued this track. Shit, I loved it!

It's just as good as the Marijuana video.

Kid Cudi: A True Genius

The enemies Cudi faces slowly start to catch up to Cudi though, and start to damage him.

At the song's end, "Mr. Rager" comes down and delivers Scott the finishing blow.

This symbolizes how the disregard of reality seems like a good idea at the time but comes back to bite him in the butt.

Once the "trip" ends, Cudi is found in a therapist's office and left dumbfounded.

It's a sobering story of a man going on a journey to escape pain, but somehow not getting it.

The "Rager" thing really fits the video features. It brings the song concept to life.

Lots of violence in the Rager short video - but the song lyrics don't sound the same.

Kid Cudi Shed Light on his alter ego

Kid Cusi and Scott Medscude are two different identities.

In another aspect, the true Cudi is an encapsulation of all the grief and emotion Scott has felt.

Through this alter-ego, the average listener such as you and I can relate with Cudi and truly take in the art.

Killing Mr. Rager proves that it was all an illusion in the first place.

The song is really good - you can definitely see why fans gravitate.

The beat is mellow yet interesting enough to keep you both entertained and enthralled in the world Cudo created.

Another track where Cudi kills it is Already Home with Jay Z.

That song really put Cudi to life! The release date for that track is September 2009 (became big in October and November though.

If you weren't there in October/November... If feel back man. You missed out on life!

Hook: "Birds sing flying around.

You never see them too long on the ground.

You wanna be one of them, yeah"

Tell me where you're going, tell us where you're headed. I'm off on the adventure.

Mr. Rager tell me some of your stories, tell us of your travels

Man on the moon 2: Review

Every time Cudi would say "I'm on my way to heaven" I felt like Cudi was kinda talking to me directly through the song.

Mr. Rager is one hell of a Cudi song!

Not only that, this song is just one of the many you'll find in his Second Studio Album "Man on The Moon ii."

Cudi, coke revived, takes all his angry and emotional feelings and turns them into stories.

These songs feel like fever dreams - a true legend that we can all relate to.

You don't need a cocaine addition to be able to relate to Cudi's story.

Once officially released to the world, 'Man on the Moon 2' filled his fans with excitement and life.

You can hear the fantasy end, with songs like "GHOST" and "Trapped In My Mind" You know that this is the beginning...

Complex Magazine has a lot to say about Kid Cudi.

It feels like Cudi's close to death in every song.

He's a role model telling kids the dangers of abusing cocaine.

Even if the lyrics don't explicitly say it, Cudi is clearly coke revived.
